Science, Management and Innovation

Transform your scientific passion into real-world impact with a unique Master's that bridges cutting-edge research and sustainable business solutions. In this two-year programme, you will master the language of both laboratory and boardroom whilst tackling humanity's greatest challenges.

Tackling tomorrow's challenges today

Many organisations struggle with societal challenges when working towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to health, climate and energy, industry and biodiversity. Addressing these challenges requires knowledge from policy, management, and innovation fields alongside scientific expertise.

"Become the sustainability navigator our world needs - combining rigorous scientific knowledge with business acumen to drive meaningful change."

A unique two-year journey

In Science, Management and Innovation (SMI), you will develop expertise in tackling societal challenges, work directly on the SDGs, and master communication with policymakers and business leaders. This distinctive two-year programme first advances your knowledge in your scientific field, then applies this expertise to real-world business or policy questions.

Building skills for tomorrow's careers

You will gain work experience outside academia and develop essential skills including interviewing, oral presentation, cooperation, and entrepreneurship — enhancing your career prospects. Working alongside students from diverse disciplines provides an enriching, collaborative learning environment.

Real-world impact through research

During your research project, you will tackle authentic problems within your chosen theme at companies, governmental organisations, research laboratories, or NGOs. Through this project, you will apply your learning to real-world scenarios, making tangible impact on pressing global challenges.

“What appeals to me in this Master's is the combination of my background in natural sciences with new insights into policy, innovation and entrepreneurship. It gives me the opportunity to combine my passion for research with a broader perspective, outside the lab.”
